Russian Market Entry Strategy Development
"Every land has its laugh, and every corn has its chaff" (proverb)
"No safe wading in an unknown water" (proverb)
"Look before you leap" (proverb)

When a company has made a decision to enter Russia, there is a variety of options open to it. These options vary with cost, risk and the degree of control which can be exercised over them. That is why developing an efficient Entry Strategy for Russia and for its regions, as well as gaining market share across this country are major tasks for any foreign company that is willing to start and expand its business here. There are examples when even world majors have failed to take full advantage of the Russian market potential because of misunderstandings concerning local regional conditions, mentality, putting too much trust into their brands forgetting the common rule: "When in Rome, do as the Romans do."

At Independent Consulting Group (ICG), the established practice is to start with Strategic Marketing Analysis providing a detailed assessment of potential risks and opportunities facing foreign investors in Russia in regard of existing/potential assets, and middle- and long- term forecasts of how they may change in the future. Our methodology allows the client to develop a clear understanding of political, economic, legal, and tax frameworks by which an international company will be guided while operating in Russia. As a rule, marketing analysis made by Independent Consulting Group serves only as a first step towards further development of Russia Entry or Business Strategy and business development plans. Usually, the analysis includes a general outline of Russian political system, macro-economic drivers of the economy, legislative issues, the current and future role of the given sector, and, in particular, those elements which relate specifically to the client with a special focus on strategic risks and opportunities. Depending on the client needs, Independent Consulting Group may explore potential opportunities in more depth as it reviews the entry strategies of various international companies already operating in Russia in order to identify further steps by the client.

The regular Russian Market Entry Strategy Development package may include:
  • Strategic Marketing Analysis
  • Power Mapping of the Industry
  • Identified Opportunities
  • Potential Business Models (Independent Company, Affiliated Company, Representative Office, JV, Merger & Acquisition)
  • Potential Strategic Partners
  • Procedures for introducing a company in Russia
  • Business Costs and Investments
  • Action Plan Development

Exclusiveness

Independent Consulting Group develops strategies looking into the future. If some company tried to build its strategy basing upon the general publicly available premises that anyone can have access to, relying solely upon past experiences of the others, it would be doomed to lag behind its competitors in the market race. That’s why while elaborating on a Russian Market Entry Strategy, Independent Consulting Group is always focused on forecasting further development of the market.
